Biography

Joseph Chorba, a Shareholder at WilkinGuttenplan, has been with the firm since 2002. Joe divides his time between working with clients in the real estate industry and closely held businesses.

He is a Co-Practice Leader for the firm’s Homeowners and Associations group. As part of his real estate expertise, Joseph works with a multitude of common interest realty associations throughout New York and New Jersey. His work with them includes audits, compilations, forecasts, and consulting. He also assists real estate clients with sponsor transition procedures and project management.

Joseph provides closely held businesses with audit, review, compilation, tax planning/compliance, and other miscellaneous consulting services. Joseph also contributes to developing our entry-level staff, participates in the firm’s intern and staff training and orientation programs, and is well-versed in accounting software packages for small and medium-sized businesses.

Joseph is also a Certified Fraud Examiner. During his career, Joseph has worked with clients on various fraud investigations, including criminal investigations, embezzlement, misappropriation of assets, and book and record reconstruction.

Prior to joining WilkinGuttenplan, he worked as a staff accountant for a firm in West Orange, NJ, providing accounting and bookkeeping services to a diverse client base.

If you weren’t an accountant/consultant what would you be?

I would be an architect or marine biologist.

What advice would you give to the next generation of CPAs and Advisors?

If something goes wrong, take responsibility. If something goes OK, share the credit with your team. When something goes great, credit your team for a job well done.
