Biographical Information:

Karolis Matulis, a Manager at WilkinGuttenplan, has been with the firm since 2013. He is the chair of the firm’s Innovation Council, facilitating multiple internal process automation initiatives.
Karolis helps his clients solve problems and save money. He has a keen ability to unpack and advise on the tax consequences of business transactions. His expertise includes real estate and partnership taxation, complex partnership transactions, §704(b) and (c) fair market value basis of accounting, and §1031 exchanges. Karolis also supports his clients’ long-term financial strategies by helping to devise and structure business transactions. He also has experience in the preparation of business valuation reports for use in litigation and estate/gift tax.
Beyond his expertise in traditional business finance, Karolis’ knowledge in emerging technologies allows him to uncover opportunities for operational improvements for his clients. He has experience designing process automation solutions, implementing software improvements, and architecting system integrations for seamless interoperability across organizations. Karolis has been at the forefront of developments in blockchain and digital assets. He advises clients on the tax and accounting consequences of owning, trading, mining, and staking digital assets. He has helped develop accounting processes for portfolios of digital assets and has advised clients on the use of tokens within their business ecosystem.
